2.A gag is a device worn over or in the mouth to restrict speech during BDSM play. Types include ball gags, bit gags, ring gags, tape gags, and cloth gags. Gags are commonly used in bondage and D/s dynamics. Because gags affect the ability to use verbal safe words, their use requires pre-negotiation of alternative communication signals — such as tapping out, dropping a held object, or using hand signals. Gag safety includes monitoring breathing and never leaving a gagged person alone.
