2.Topping from the bottom describes a situation where the person in the submissive or bottom role attempts to direct, control, or manipulate the scene — telling the top or dominant what to do, when to do it, or how to do it — in ways that undermine the power dynamic. It is generally viewed as problematic in structured D/s relationships, as it contradicts the agreed-upon dynamic. However, communication is distinct from topping from the bottom: voicing a preference or concern is healthy. The line is crossed when the bottom is actively directing against the dominant's authority.
